Trump Scheduled To Vote Against Florida Abortion Ban

Friday, August 31, 2024 – Former President Donald Trump announced he would vote against a Florida ballot measure that would protect abortion rights, following backlash from conservative supporters. This decision comes after an NBC News interview where Trump appeared to support the measure, which led to criticism from anti-abortion activists.

Although Trump reiterated on Fox News that he finds Florida's six-week abortion ban too strict, he still plans to vote "no" on the measure to amend the state’s constitution in favor of abortion rights. He justified his decision by claiming that Democrats support abortion at any stage of pregnancy.

Trump’s stance highlights the ongoing debate over abortion laws in the country, where regulations vary widely by state. His remarks contrast with those of his Democratic opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris, who criticized his position as continuing an extreme anti-abortion stance.

Plane Crashes In Oregon Town Killing Three People

Sunday, September 1, 2024 – Local Authorities confirmed that a small twin-engine Cessna 421C crashed into a row of townhouses near Troutdale Airport, east of Portland, resulting in three fatalities and setting multiple homes on fire.

The crash occurred around 10:30 am local time and led to a fire that spread from two to four units, displacing five families. Two people were treated for injuries at the scene. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are investigating the crash, with the NTSB taking charge.

The Multnomah County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene, where officials reported that the plane struck a power pole or tower during the crash, causing it to fall and further igniting the residential structure. The crash caused significant disruption, including a power outage in the area.

Judge Orders Trump To Stop Playing Isaac Hayes Song During Campaign

Tuesday, September 3, 2024 – A federal judge has temporarily blocked Donald Trump from using the song "Hold On, I’m Comin’" by Isaac Hayes and David Porter at his rallies. This ruling is in response to a lawsuit filed by Hayes’ family seeking a permanent ban on the song’s use.

The decision of the judge, issued by Thomas Thrash in Atlanta, prevents further use of the song by Trump’s campaign but does not require the removal of videos where the song was previously used. The order will remain in place until the lawsuit is resolved.

The Hayes family expressed gratitude for the ruling, with Isaac Hayes III hoping it would encourage other artists to protect their music from unauthorized political use. A growing list of artists, including Abba, Celine Dion, and Johnny Marr, have also demanded that Trump stop using their music at his events.

Shooting In Georgia School Leaves Four People Dead

Wednesday, September 4, 2024 – A shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia, left four people dead and nine others injured. The incident, which occurred just weeks after the start of the new school year, marks the first school shooting of the year in the United States and highlights the ongoing threat of gun violence in schools.

A 14-year-old suspect was taken into custody, though law enforcement officials, including Sheriff Jud Smith, have not yet confirmed the fatalities, stating only that there were "multiple injuries." The shooting took place around 9:30 a.m., just over an hour after classes began. The situation was reported to be under control by midday.

Apalachee High, with nearly 1,900 students, started its school year on August 1. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation confirmed the casualties via social media, as authorities continue to investigate the incident.

Bill To Allow Undocumented Immigrants Buy Homes Vetoed By California Governor

Friday, September 6, 2024 – The Governor of California, Gavin Newsom vetoed a bill that aimed to allow undocumented immigrants access to state funds for purchasing homes, citing budget limitations as the main reason. Newsom emphasized the need to allocate California Housing Finance Agency resources carefully, given the state's finite funding.

The bill, AB 1840, was introduced by Fresno Democrat Joaquin Arambula, who advocated for offering homeownership opportunities to undocumented immigrants who contribute to society and pay taxes. However, opposition from Republicans cantered on prioritizing housing aid for legal residents over undocumented immigrants.

The veto comes as immigration becomes a key issue in the run-up to the November U.S. elections, where Kamala Harris and Donald Trump are set to face off. Trump has criticized Democrats for being lenient on immigration and pledged to ban mortgages for undocumented immigrants.

Sentencing For Trump’s Hush Money Trial Delayed Till After Election

Saturday, September 7, 2024 – A judge in New York postponed former President Donald Trump’s sentencing in his hush money criminal case until after the November 5 election to prevent any perception of political interference. Originally scheduled for September 18, the sentencing was delayed after Trump’s legal team requested the change, citing concerns of election interference.

The charges were brought by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, a Democrat. The judge, Juan Merchan, rescheduled sentencing for November 26, unless the case is dismissed beforehand. Merchan emphasized the need to maintain the court’s impartiality and avoid any influence on the election, in which Trump is the Republican nominee.

The case involves the payment of $130,000 to Stormy Daniels by Trump’s former lawyer to silence claims of a sexual encounter before the 2016 election. Trump’s legal team is seeking to have the case dismissed before the new sentencing date.

Donald Trump Confirms That He Supports Use Of Adult Marijuana In Florida

Tuesday, September 10, 2024 – Republican presidential candidate, Donald Trump has voiced his support for a Florida ballot initiative, Amendment 3, which aims to legalize recreational marijuana for adults 21 and older. Trump announced Truth Social, following an earlier statement where he expressed openness to the idea.

Trump emphasized the need to end arrests for small amounts of marijuana for personal use and stated that he would vote in favor of the measure. He also endorsed ongoing legislative efforts to make it easier for banks to serve cannabis businesses in compliance with state laws.

Additionally, he indicated that, if elected president, he would continue promoting research on marijuana's medical uses and work to reclassify it as a Schedule 3 drug, making it easier to regulate. This position marks a shift from his administration's previous stance against expanding cannabis access.

Judge Blocks Law In Utah Restricting Youth Social Media Use

Wednesday, September 11, 2024 – A federal judge has temporarily blocked Utah from enforcing a new law that requires social media platforms to verify users' ages and restrict minors' accounts to protect young people’s mental health.

Chief United States District Judge Robert Shelby issued a preliminary injunction, finding that NetChoice, a tech industry trade group, was likely to prove that the law violated the First Amendment by restricting social media companies' free speech rights. The ruling is part of a broader trend in which courts have halted similar state-level regulations designed to protect children online.

While acknowledging Utah’s intent to safeguard minors from the mental health risks of social media, Shelby emphasized that content-based regulation of speech must meet strict constitutional scrutiny, which the law failed to do. The law, signed in March by Governor Spencer Cox, replaced a previous version that had also been blocked following legal challenges.

Kamala Harris Promise To Reduce The Degree Required To Secure Some Federal Jobs

Saturday, September 14, 2024 – Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris announced plans to eliminate college degree requirements for certain federal jobs if she is elected president. This move is part of her campaign strategy for the 2024 election, where she faces a close race against Republican rival Donald Trump.

Harris aims to expand job opportunities for Americans without four-year degrees, reflecting the fact that over 62% of Americans aged 25 and older do not hold a bachelor's degree. Harris emphasized the importance of recognizing alternative career paths like apprenticeships and technical programs, noting that a degree doesn't always reflect someone's skills.

Both Harris and Trump have also proposed economic policies to appeal to middle-class voters, including tax cuts. Harris has pledged a middle-class tax cut, while Trump has advocated for reducing taxes on overtime pay.

Former President Donald Trump Safe After Another Assassination Attempt

Sunday, September 15, 2024 – Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump was unharmed on Sunday after the Secret Service thwarted an assassination attempt while he was golfing at his West Palm Beach, Florida, course. A gunman was spotted by agents in bushes near the property line, about a few hundred yards from where Trump was playing.

The suspect, who fled but was later arrested, left behind an AK-47-style rifle and other items at the scene. This incident follows a prior attack two months earlier when Trump was shot at during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania, suffering a minor injury.

These events underscore the security risks for presidential candidates in the lead-up to the Nov. 5 election. The suspect, identified by several media outlets as Ryan Wesley Routh of Hawaii, was reportedly active online in support of Ukraine’s war efforts against Russia.

Pipeline Owned By Energy Transfer Caught Fire In Texas

Monday, September 16, 2024 – A natural gas liquids (NGL) pipeline owned by Energy Transfer caught fire in La Porte, Texas, causing power outages and prompting evacuations. The fire, which occurred at a valve station on a 20-inch pipeline, knocked out power for over 5,000 customers and led to the evacuation of nearly 1,000 homes and businesses within a half-mile radius.

By midday, the fire was isolated, and officials estimated it would take hours for the residual product to burn off. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined. Energy Transfer reported that a passenger car may have struck the valve. One firefighter experienced heat stress, but no other injuries were reported.

The Texas Railroad Commission is investigating the incident, and other pipeline operators in the area have been notified to ensure safety. CenterPoint Energy is working to restore power to affected customers as soon as it is safe.

Neither Trump Nor Harris Will Be Endorsed By Teamsters In The Presidential Election

Wednesday, September 18, 2024 – The International Brotherhood of Teamsters announced that it will not endorse any United States presidential candidate in the upcoming election. This is a break from its long history of supporting Democratic candidates, having endorsed every Democratic candidate for president since 2000, but on rare occasions endorsed Republicans.

Despite polling that showed 59.6% of its members favoring Donald Trump over Kamala Harris, the union’s leadership decided to withhold an endorsement. Teamsters President, Sean O'Brien stated that neither party had made firm commitments on key union issues. The union's decision is significant, particularly in battleground states like Michigan, Nevada, and Pennsylvania.

While most major unions, including the AFL-CIO, have endorsed Harris, some Teamsters locals continue to support her campaign. Trump expressed satisfaction with the union's neutral stance, calling it a "great honor."

Harris’s Call For Second Debate Rejected By Trump

Saturday, September 21, 2024 – Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential nominee, has accepted an invitation from CNN for a second debate with Donald Trump on October 23. Harris expressed hope that Trump would agree to participate, referencing his previous praise for CNN’s debate format in June

However, a Trump spokesperson reiterated the former president's prior statement that he would not participate in any more debates. At a rally in North Carolina, Trump argued that it was too late for another debate, pointing out that voting had already begun in several states.

Despite this, Harris remains eager for a rematch following their first debate on September 10, where she was widely seen as the winner, although Trump disagreed with that assessment. Trump had debated Joe Biden earlier in June before Biden exited the race, leaving Harris as the Democratic nominee.

Man Caught Near Trump Golf Course Indicted On Charges Of Attempted Assassination

Wednesday, September 25, 2024 – Ryan Routh, 58, has been indicted on charges of attempted assassination of a political candidate after allegedly targeting Donald Trump at his Florida golf course. Federal prosecutors revealed that Routh pointed a rifle through a fence at Trump’s West Palm Beach golf club on September 15, while the former president and current Republican candidate was present.

Routh, who was previously facing gun-related charges, will remain in jail until trial. The indictment, issued by a federal grand jury in Miami, follows the discovery of evidence suggesting a premeditated plan to assassinate Trump.

Prosecutors cited a letter Routh delivered months earlier, alluding to an attempt on Trump’s life, and cell phone data placing him near Trump’s Florida residence and various events. The attempted assassination charge could lead to a life sentence if Routh is convicted.

Judge Rules Out New York City Rule That Requires Sharing Customers Data

Wednesday, September 25, 2024 – A federal judge has ruled against a New York City law that required food delivery companies like DoorDash, Grubhub, and Uber Eats to share customer data with restaurants. United States. District Judge, Analisa Torres declared the law unconstitutional, citing that it violated the First Amendment by improperly regulating commercial speech.

The law, enacted in 2021 to support restaurants recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic, mandated that delivery platforms provide restaurants with customer names, delivery addresses, email addresses, and phone numbers. The city argued the law protected restaurants from the exploitative practices of delivery companies.

However, the delivery platforms claimed it infringed on customer privacy and could harm their business by allowing restaurants to market directly to customers and potentially poach them. Judge Torres ruled that the city failed to prove a substantial need for the law.
