Here are the key events in science and disasters news for the month of February 2015.

  • Plane Crashes into Highway and River in Taiwan (Feb. 4): TransAsia Airways Flight 235 clips an elevated highway before crashing into a river shortly after takeoff in Taipei, Taiwan. At least 31 people are killed and 15 others are injured. Two people in a taxi are also injured when the plane strikes the highway.

  • Measles Cases Increase in the United States (Feb. 17): The measles outbreak continues in the United States. According to health officials, 20 new cases have been diagnosed: ten in California, eight in Chicago, and two in Nevada. These figures, confirmed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, bring the total number of cases to 141 in 17 states. Much of the outbreak has been traced back to Disneyland where it began in mid-December.
