  • The First Reusable Rocket Returns from Orbital Space (Dec. 22): A Falcon 9 rocket returns from orbital space and lands safely. Designed and launched by SpaceX, the Falcon 9 becomes the first reusable rocket to successfully enter orbital space and return. SpaceX is a private American aerospace manufacturer located in Hawthorne, California. The company is owned by Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk.

  • Guinea Is Declared Ebola Free (Dec. 29): The World Health Organization (WHO) announces that Guinea is free of the Ebola virus. WHO believes that the virus began in Guinea in 2013. The outbreak has killed more than 11,000 people in ten countries.
