Trio II

For a long while, it seemed like this follow-up to the million-selling 1987 collaboration between Emmylou Harris, Linda Ronstadt and Dolly Parton would never see the light of day. Sessions for the project began in 1993, and after several delays, listeners can finally hear Trio's sweet harmonies soar in standouts such as the Carter Family's traditional bluegrass gem “Lover's Return, ”Ronstadt's reworking of Maura O'Connell's surging “The Blue Train,” Parton's lovely version of Neil Young's “After the Goldrush” and the achingly blue Harris showcase “When We're Gone, Long Gone.” The three singers are backed here by a stellar cast of musicians, including the late Roy Huskey Jr., on bass, mandolin giant David Grisman, fiddle virtuoso Alison Krauss and drummers Jim Keltner and Larry Atamanuik.
