Amid the sea of soundtracks that have been surfacing lately, this one for the new Eddie Murphy/Martin Lawrence comedy is among the best. The 15-track collection features 10 that were written and produced by R. Kelly, most of which are performed by a bevy of big-name contributors. Among the standouts here are Wyclef Jean's beautiful “New Day,” which recalls “What's Goin' On”-era Marvin Gaye, City High's groove-riding “What Would You Do,” Maxwell's soaring ballad “Fortunate,” Kelly Price's gospel-fired “It's Gonna Rain” and a striking remake of Minnie Ripperton's “Lovin' You,” courtesy of Sparkle. The blend of hip hop and vintage soul sounds works perfectly, and the only cuts that fall flat are Trisha Yearwood's way-out-of-place “Follow the Wind” and Brian McKnight's ultra-sweet “Discovery.” Otherwise, this one flows seamlessly.
