Matchbox Twenty
Mad Season By Matchbox Twenty
- Lava/Atlantic
He now has one of the most recognizable voices on the face of the planet, but Matchbox Twenty's Rob Thomas is much more than just the guy who sang lead on Santana's mega-smash Smooth last year.
He's a rising star with his own band, and this second disc from Matchbox Twenty builds on the momentum that started with their 10-million selling 1996 debut Yourself or Someone Like You.
Mad Season By Matchbox Twenty boasts a sound that's gotten tighter from near constant roadwork, and several smartly-crafted, sure-fire radio faves. Among several highlights is the current hit "Bent," "Black & White People," and the mystery-laden "Crutch," with the latter featuring Thomas spinning off lyrics in lightning-fast fashion.
A few songs are over-produced and over-orchestrated, particularly toward the back half of the disc. But generally this is a worthy successor to the first album, and one which further establishes Matchbox Twenty as a major commercial force.
