Their Trio partner Dolly Parton is nowhere to be found on this set, but Linda Ronstadt and Emmylou Harris deliver a captivating collaboration of their own on Western Wall: The Tucson Sessions.
Both singers have always had a fine eye for selecting tasty cover songs, and their choices prove impeccable once again. Their duet on the album-opening “Loving the Highway” gets the disc off to a solid start, and subsequent tracks like Leonard Cohen's beautiful “Sisters of Mercy,” the Rosanne Cash title cut, and Jackson Browne's “For a Dancer” suit Harris and Ronstadt perfectly.
Not like they were hurting for cash, but Bruce Springsteen and Patty Scialfa's household should do fine in the royalty department as well, thanks to the country-tinged cover of Scialfa's “Valerie” and the lovely, set-closing version of Springsteen's “Across the Border,” which features Neil Young on harmony vocals.
