Happy, Texas certainly lives up to its name. Escaping prison, Harry Sawyer (Jeremy Northam) and Wayne Wayne Wayne Jr. (Steve Zahn) get stopped by the cops while driving a stolen car. The boys in blue mistake the thugs for a gay couple heading to Happy to organize a preteen pageant. Harry and Wayne decide to act out their roles, finding love interests and a highly robbable bank in their unexpected Texas haven.
Thankfully, when forced to act homosexual, Northam and Zahn don't degenerate into stereotyped sissies; on the contrary, they play the roles just as fairly as the closeted cop who falls for Northam's character. Although the sweet comedy loses its luster as the movie progresses, Happy, Texas delivers a few good laughs.
