Expectations for Snake Eyes are high after a high-octane, adrenaline-pumping opening sequence in which Cage's over-the-top cop, Rick Santoro, hauls ass through an Atlantic City arena minutes before a capacity-crowd boxing match. Before you can say knock out, the (fixed) match is over, the U.S. Secretary of Defense has taken a fatal bullet and a hurricane is raging outside. While the film doesn't completely lose steam, it doesn't quite maintain the initial feverish pace. Santoro and his seemingly straight-arrow best friend, Naval officer Kevin Dunne (Sinise), race the clock to find the shooter among the 14,000 spectators confined to the arena. Santoro uncovers a military-industrial complex conspiracy that hits close to home.
