The Mirror Has Two Faces recalls Streisand's plain-Jane role in Funny Girl. But back then, she wasn't considered a diva, so the camera didn't have to be nice to her. In her latest outing, even when she's meant to be unattractive, she glows. Feminist Columbia University professor Rose Morgan (Streisand), who lives with her mother (Bacall), grew up as the smart one in the family, while her younger sister, Claire (Rogers), had the looks. When Claire introduces the sexually frustrated Rose to math professor Gregory Larkin (Bridges), Rose knows exactly what she wants. She wins his affection, but he has sworn off sex and finds in Rose an opportunity for an intellectual, but platonic, relationship. They marry but sleep in separate beds. Rose thinks a makeover will spark his carnal urges. Not only does Rose shed her frumpy wardrobe, she also abandons her feminist ideology.
