Jack Frost

This warm holiday film looks at the inspirational magic that touches the Frost family after father/rock star Jack (Michael Keaton) dies in a car crash and returns home in the form of an animated snow pile. Edgar Allen Poe referred to it as metapsychosis, and various world religions term their belief transmigration of souls, but in this film, reincarnation translates directly into holiday cheer with a cozy moral: “everybody deserves a second chance.” The high-spirited gallivanting that ensues when Jack returns to his perfect family as a snowman has the sweet yet chilling unnaturalness of a Sno-Cone. It is not enough to suspend disbelief — disbelief must be fired and immediately escorted out of the building. Once this occurs, however, we're left with a decently acted Christmas film on the feel-good side of absurdity.
