Horror must have suspense. At the very least, the audience should have some feeling of concern for the lead characters' lives. Neither is evidenced here, which may be the scariest thing about Final Destination.
The film takes off with unusual promise as a chilling opening sequence taps into airline fears and creepy notions of fate. Then the movie crashes. The basic premise is this: six teens cheat Death. Death (Tony Todd) doesn't like this at all. Spectacular and numbingly violent “accidents” begin to befall the children. Alex (Devon Sawa), bearer of the original lifesaving premonition, realizes what's happening while the FBI charts him as the primary suspect.
