Heather Graham's strangely immaterial sexuality is the main attraction of Committed. This light romantic comedy almost explores the double entendre possibilities of its title by presenting Graham's character as a woman hysterically obsessed with her wedding vows. Almost.

NYC nymphet Joline (Graham) tracks down her runaway hubbie Carl (Luke Wilson) to El Paso, Texas, where he's seeded a new life and is romancing a new woman. Dedicated to marriage with unrivaled fierceness, she watches over him from afar. Various romantic interludes arrive (in the form of Goran Visnjic and Patricia Velasquez), but the film resolutely refuses to take all the chances implicit within Joline's devotion (love as obsession, individuals blinded by seemingly unsalvageable ideals, committed to the asylum, etc.) and comes off as fluff, fluff, fluff. Joline's one-sidedness injures the film. Compare with Graham's performance in Boogie Nights, where Rollergirl's dreamy diaphanous sweetness clashed down onto chilling scenes where her interior turmoil was revealed.
