Told through a series of flashbacks as a grown man reads his mother's diary, A Chef in Love offers a culinary tour of Georgia in the 1920s, just before the Red Army invades the country. French chef Pascal Ichac (Richard) and Georgian princess Cecilia Abachidze (Kirtadze) meet and fall in love on a train headed for Tbilisi. Cecilia guides Ichac, 20 years her senior, on a gastronomic tour of Georgia as he searches for ideas for the restaurant he plans to open. Ichac's restaurant becomes legendary for its exquisite French cuisine, but he loses everything when the Communists storm Georgia and seize his restaurant and Cecilia.
