It's easy to see how this movie got made, since the synopsis is so compelling: Johnny Depp stars as an astronaut whose mission loses contact with Earth for two mysterious minutes. He returns strangely altered and proceeds to violently impregnate his wife (Charlize Theron) with twins.
Rosemary's Baby updated for the age of The X-Files. Unfortunately, production design maybe the best thing about The Astronaut's Wife. Jan Roelfs was in charge and sculpts an eerie mood tinged with subterfuge. Tension falls into formula, and what could be plot turns are anticipated well in advance. Depp is even more inscrutable than the average earthman inhabited by a hostile alien presence.
