Don't be fooled: 187 is not another Dangerous Minds or Stand and Deliver — a film in which a dedicated teacher reaches out to and softens hardened students. Instead, the film examines the battle between street-smart kids who have no regard for authority and powerless teachers whose administration cares more about avoiding lawsuits than the welfare of its instructors. Trevor Garfield (Jackson) leaves his job at a tough Brooklyn high school after a student stabs him in the back over a failing grade. A year later, Garfield's in a similar situation in LA, but he handles the hopeless situation much differently this time around.
