The United States is home to roughly 40% of the world's billionaires. About 10% of America's richest citizens have committed to participate in the Giving Pledge and donate at least 50% of their wealth to charity during their lifetime or at death. Most notably, Warren Buffet—ranked the second richest American—has pledged 99% of his fortune to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The pledge is not a binding contract and each person can choose how to distribute his or her wealth. To learn more about the Giving Pledge, visit givingpledge.org.
