politician, abandoned plans to resume his position as House majority leader in January, shortly after his close friend, disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff, agreed to testify to federal prosecutors in a corruption investigation. DeLay himself was indicted by a Texas grand jury in 2005 for allegedly violating the state's election laws. He announced his resignation from Congress in April, and officially stepped down in June.
