Cythnia McKinney, 2006 News
Democratic U.S. Representative from Georgia, who is known for her blunt, often abrasive, demeanor, apologized in April for an earlier altercation with Capitol police. In March, an officer grabbed McKinney's arm when she ignored his request to stop when she bypassed a metal detector at a House office (legislators are allowed to do so). McKinney then hit the officer. She accused the officer of racism and sexism, but she failed to find much support for her allegations. In her apology she said, “I am sorry that this misunderstanding happened at all, and I regret its escalation.” She was defeated in August's Democratic primary election.
