philanthropist and socialite, was allegedly the victim of elder abuse by her son, Anthony Marshall. Marshall's son, Philip, filed a court petition over the summer, accusing his father of denying the 104-year-old of medication, slashing her living expenses, and forcing her to sleep on a sofa that reeked of urine. Marshall was accused of mishandling Astor's money and enriching himself at her expense. Marshall called the charges “a vicious fabrication.” In July, a judge appointed J. P. Morgan the temporary guardian of Astor's property and finances.
