former KGB spy, died in London in November after being contaminated with the radioactive isotope polonium 210. His mysterious death sparked an investigation that found traces of polonium 210 in London, Moscow, on several airplanes, and in Hamburg, Germany. On his deathbed, Litvinenko, who had been investigating the recent murder of Russian journalist and critic of the Kremlin Anna Politkovskaya, blamed agents of Russian president Vladimir Putin for the poisoning.
