Kenneth Tomlinson, 2005 News
chairman of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, drew criticism from Democrats in June for attempting to politicize the corporation, which annually contributes $400 million to public television and radio stations. In 2004, Tomlinson hired a conservative researcher—without informing CPB's board—to monitor the political leanings of guests and rate the discourse on the television show Now, which was then hosted by Bill Moyers. He was forced to resign in November following the release of a scathing report by the corporation's inspector general. The report said Tomlinson violated federal law and the organizations rules as he sought to rid CPB of what he saw as a liberal slant.
