Gerhard Klann, 2001 News
former U.S. senator and president of the New School University, was forced to reopen old wounds from the Vietnam War in April when a former Navy SEAL gave an account, which conflicted with Kerrey's, to the New York Times and CBS News about a 1969 incident in which several women and children were shot. Kerrey said that his outfit, nicknamed “Kerrey's Raiders,” was sent on a mission to kill Viet Cong soldiers meeting in the Mekong Delta. He said his group was fired at and returned fire, only to learn later that they had shot and killed more than a dozen women and children. Fellow SEAL Gerhard Klann told reporters that Kerrey had ordered the unit to round up the civilians and shoot them.
