longtime columnist for the Boston Globe, resigned in August while serving a two-month suspension following accusations that he had fabricated sources and facts and had stolen and altered material from other writers. The Globe was criticized for having double standards, after having two months earlier called for the resignation of a black woman who wrote a regular column. Patricia Smith had also admitted to basing some of her columns on information that she made up.
