Samuel Wells MORRIS, Congress, PA (1786-1847)
MORRIS Samuel Wells , a Representative from Pennsylvania; born in Philadelphia, Pa., September 1, 1786; pursued an academic course at Princeton College; studied law; was admitted to the bar and commenced practice in Wellsboro, Tioga County, Pa.; judge of the district court; first treasurer of Wellsboro County; postmaster of Wellsboro from July 1, 1808, to April 1, 1813; member of the State house of representatives; elected as a Democrat to the Twenty-fifth and Twenty-sixth Congresses (March 4, 1837-March 3, 1841); was not a candidate for reelection in 1840 to the Twenty-seventh Congress; died in Wellsboro, Tioga County, Pa., May 25, 1847.
