Samuel Jones WILKIN, Congress, NY (1793-1866)
WILKIN Samuel Jones , a Representative from New York; born in Goshen, Orange County, N.Y., December 17, 1793; was graduated from Princeton College in 1812; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1815 and began practice in Goshen; member of the State assembly in 1824 and 1825; elected as an Anti-Jacksonian to the Twenty-second Congress (March 4, 1831-March 3, 1833); unsuccessful Whig candidate for election in 1844 as Lieutenant Governor of New York; member of the State senate in 1848 and 1849; canal appraiser in 1850; died in Goshen, N.Y., March 11, 1866; interment in Slate Hill Cemetery.
