MORRIS, Thomas, Congress, NY (1771-1849)
MORRIS Thomas , a Representative from New York; born in Philadelphia, Pa., February 26, 1771; attended school in Geneva, Switzerland, 1781-1786 and the University of Leipzig, Germany, 1786-1788; returned to Philadelphia; studied law; was admitted to the bar and commenced practice in Canandaigua, N.Y.; member of the State assembly 1794-1796; elected as a Federalist to the Seventh Congress (March 4, 1801-March 3, 1803); was not a candidate for renomination; resumed the practice of law in New York City in 1803; appointed United States marshal for the southern district of New York in 1816, 1820, 1825, and 1829; died in New York City March 12, 1849.
