John Curtis BRODHEAD, Congress, NY (1780-1859)

BRODHEAD John Curtis , a Representative from New York; born in Modena, Ulster County, N.Y., October 27, 1780; attended the district schools; engaged in mercantile and agricultural pursuits; sheriff of Ulster County 1825-1828; elected as a Jacksonian to the Twenty-second Congress (March 4, 1831-March 3, 1833); was not a candidate for reelection in 1832; elected as a Democrat to the Twenty-fifth Congress (March 4, 1837-March 3, 1839); chairman, Committee on Expenditures in the Department of the Navy (Twenty-fifth Congress); declined to be a candidate for renomination in 1838; resumed mercantile and agricultural pursuits; died in Modena, Ulster County, N.Y., January 2, 1859; interment in Modena Rural Cemetery.
