James WILLIAMS, Congress, DE (1825-1899)
WILLIAMS James , a Representative from Delaware; born in Philadelphia, Pa., August 4, 1825; completed preparatory studies; moved to Kenton, Kent County, Del., in 1844 and engaged in agricultural pursuits; member of the State house of representatives in 1856 and 1862; served in the State senate in 1866 and 1871; delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1872; elected as a Democrat to the Forty-fourth and Forty-fifth Congresses (March 4, 1875-March 3, 1879); was not a candidate for renomination in 1878; resumed agricultural pursuits; moved to Smyrna, Del., in 1891 and continued farming until his death on April 12, 1899; interment in St. Peter's Cemetery.
