Ebenezer TUCKER, Congress, NJ (1758-1845)

TUCKER Ebenezer , a Representative from New Jersey; born at Tuckers Beach, Burlington County, N.J., November 15, 1758; attended the common schools; served in the Revolution under General Washington at the Battle of Long Island and other engagements; judge of the court of common pleas, justice of the court of quarter sessions, and judge of the orphans' court of Burlington County from 1820 to 1825; moved to what is now Tuckerton, N.J., which was named after him, where he engaged in mercantile pursuits and shipbuilding; postmaster of Tuckerton from 1806 to 1825, when he resigned to take up his duties in Congress; elected to the Nineteenth and Twentieth Congresses (March 4, 1825-March 3, 1829); was not a candidate for renomination; first collector of revenue of the port of Tuckerton; again postmaster of Tuckerton from 1831 until his death in Tuckerton, N.J., September 5, 1845; interment in the Old Methodist Cemetery.
