Rosa Parks
Age: 92a black seamstress who in Montgomery, Alabama, in 1955 was arrested for refusing to give up her seat to a white passenger. Martin Luther King heard about Parks's brave defiance and launched a boycott of Montgomery buses. The 17,000 black residents of Montgomery kept the boycott going for more than a year.
