Ismail Merchant

Indian-born filmmaker who, with partner James Ivory, produced several visually stunning literary films, including A Room with a View—which won three Oscars—Howards End, and Jefferson in Paris. Merchant and Ivory teamed up in 1961 and frequently collaborated with screenwriter Ruth Prawer Jhabvala.
