Leopoldo Galtieri

repressive general and military dictator of Argentina who ordered the ill-fated 1982 invasion of the British-held Falkland Islands. The move led to a 74-day war with England, in which Galtieri's regime was soundly defeated. After the British regained control of the island, Galtieri was convicted of negligence and imprisoned.
