daredevil high-wire artist who was the top-billed act for the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey circus for 20 years. Although he was quite accident prone Davis shunned nets, even from 50 feet in the air. His falls prompted New York to pass a law that called for the use of nets for acts more than 25 feet in the air.
