George (Whitey) Kurowski
Age: 81St. Louis Cardinals third baseman whose ninth inning home run in Game 5 of the 1942 World Series earned St. Louis its fourth world championship; played from 1941-49 with the Cardinals; four-time N.L. All-Star; career .286 hitter; twice led N.L. third basemen in fielding. Died of complications from a stroke.
