Calvin Griffith
Age: 87baseball owner who moved the Washington Senators to Minnesota and created the Twins franchise; a front-page editorial in The Minneapolis Star called for his resignation in 1978 after he made horribly acrimonious remarks about blacks during a speech at a local Rotary meeting; sold the team to Carl Pohlad in 1984, ending 65 years of family ownership; the Twins led the A.L. in attendance their first 10 seasons and reached the World Series in 1965; was a Senators bat boy 1924-25, the team for which his uncle and adopted father, Clark, became a Hall of Fame pitcher. He died of pneumonia.
