Bill Talbert
Age: 80Hall of Fame tennis champion who won four men's doubles titles with Gardnar Mulloy and four mixed doubles titles with Margaret Osborne duPont at the United States Championships (now the U.S. Open); lost his only two men's singles final appearances in 1944 and 1945, both to Frank Parker; five time Davis Cup captain; member of winning Davis Cup team in 1954; won 33 national tennis titles in his career; served as U.S. Open tournament director from 1971-75 and 1978-87; suffered from diabetes since age 10; a mugging in 1992 left him in declining heath.
