Edith Hurd

Hurd introduced young readers to topics ranging from the earth to firemen to whales. She collaborated with her illustrator husband, Clement Hurd, who died in 1988, on more than 50 books. Their books include Johnny Lion's Book, The Day the Sun Danced and The Earth Is Not Flat. Both Hurds also frequently collaborated with Margaret Wise Brown.
