In 1996, she divorced Prince Charles, ending an unhappy, unfaithful marriage. Though no longer a royal, Diana maintained the responsibility of rearing England's future king, William, and his brother, Harry. Famed for campaign against land mines, support for AIDS sufferers, and other causes. Just as Diana seemed to have found happiness, she died tragically in a Paris car crash that also claimed her companion, Emad Mohamed “Dodi” al-Fayed.
