Pulitzer Prize-, Tony and Academy Award-winning lyricist and composer known for his successful, sophisticated Broadway musicals. He wrote the lyrics for West Side Story (1957) and lyrics and music for Company (1970), Sweeney Todd (1979), Sunday in the Park With George (1984) and Passion (1995). In 1973, he and actor Anthony Perkins joined forces to write the movie thriller The Last of Sheila. He has continued to expand the emotional and musical boundaries of the Broadway stage.
