Larson rose to pop music fame in the 1970s with her recording of Neil Young's song “Lotta Love” (1978). She began her music career in California at age 21, when she joined Hoyt Axton's band, and soon became a backup singer for performers such as Emmylou Harris and Michael McDonald. As a soloist she released six albums; her first, Nicolette (1978), was a gold record. She was honored as best new vocalist by the Academy of Country Music in 1984.
