A self-taught pianist, Marks began composing songs in the 1920s and launched a career writing for Broadway musicals and Hollywood films. His titles include “All of Me” (1931), “Mount'n Gal” (1936), and“ That's What I Want for Christmas”, written for Shirley Temple's film Stowaway (1936). Marks produced a number of song collections and served on the board of the Songwriters' Hall of Fame.
