Singer of the hit “Monster Mash,“ one of the longest running one-hit wonders in pop music history. The multi-million selling song topped the charts in 1963, 1970, and 1973. The song was born during a nightclub performance where Pickett did an impression of a mad scientist who sees a monster perform a dance in his laboratory-an impression he had been working on since he was nine years old watching horror films in a theater his father managed. Although it is known as a one-hit wonder, it is a staple for Halloween festivities and performances.
