Adam Lambert Biography
Adam Lambert was born in Indianapolis, but grew up in San Diego where he appeared in many theatrical productions. He was a contestant on the eighth season of American Idol. Lambert quickly grabbed the attention of the judges and viewers for his theatrical performance style and extreme vocal range. Even though he was the season's runner-up, he became the only American Idol contestant to launch a headlining international concert tour, Glam Nation, within a year of his appearance on the show. His first studio album, For Your Entertainment (2009), debuted at number three on Billboard and made top ten lists in several countries.
In 2010, Malcolm Mackenzie in The Times wrote that Lambert was the first openly gay performer to launch a pop music career on a major label in the United States. Fun fact: As of October 2011, Lambert had raised over one million dollars for various charitable organizations, including DonorsChoose.org, an education charity that allows donations to be made directly to school projects.
