Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Totals
The Question:
What percentage of surviving veterans now have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder?
The Answer:
According to the National Center for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), there have been two major studies done to help researchers understand how many people suffer from PTSD.
The first studied the responses of more than 3,000 Vietnam War veterans, and the second questioned a representative national sample of more than 8,000 Americans aged 15 to 54 years.
The studies revealed that 7.8% of Americans have experienced a type of PTSD at some point during their lives. Among Vietnam War veterans that number jumps to 30.9% for men and 26.9% for women.
