Rosewood
Warner Bros.
A compelling story based on a historical incident in 1920s central Florida. When a white woman falsely accuses a black man of raping and assaulting her, a violent mob of white men seeks vengeance in Rosewood, a flourishing black town. Their attack quickly escalates into a war with the black community, destroying the town and driving women and children to refuge in nearby swamps. Rhames is outstanding as Mann, a World War I vet who drifts into town and quickly finds himself embroiled in a different kind of war. He joins forces with white shopkeeper John Wright (Voight) to help the innocent victims escape the swamps and end the bloodshed. A powerful portrayal of racial strife.
