Set in WWII era Mississippi, My Dog Skip is an unambitious evocation of a boy and his dog growing up. Racism and the bitterness of war creep in from time to time, but the film focuses mainly on Willie Morrie (Frankie Muniz) and his small- town amblings with Skip, all tied together by the voiceovers of Harry Connick Jr. as Willie's adult self. The movie has a Norman Rockwell quality about it, rendered with lightness and nostalgia.
