Influential rocker of the post-punk '70s scene best known for songs such as “Alison” (1977) and “Everyday I Write the Book” (1983). Costello started out in the early '70s British club scene performing both solo and in groups. His debut release, My Aim Is True (1977), was voted Album of the Year in the Rolling Stone critics' poll. His band the Attractions paved the way for New-Wave with albums such as This Year's Model (1977), Armed Forces (1978), and Punch the Clock (1983). When Costello returned to solo work with Spike (1989), Rolling Stone critics again took notice, voting him Songwriter of the Year. Costello continues to record and tour, as well as produce. His third wife is jazz musician Diana Krall.
