Known primarily for her portrayal of Ginger, the movie star on Gilligan's Island (1964–67), she also had a brief stage career and appeared in God's Little Acre (1958), based on the Erskine Caldwell novel by the same name. Though the Gilligan series lasted only three years, it developed a cult following through reruns and many of its characters' antics are known to people not born when the show originally aired.
