Actor best known to American audiences for his role in The Replacement Killers. John Woo's 1996 gangster movie A Better Tomorrow made Chow a star of Hong Kong's action genre. His start in Hong Kong soap operas (1973) led to a role in the popular TV series Shanghai Beach (1980). He has made over 71 films and has won several Best Actor awards in China and Japan. He career took a dramatic turn with 1999's Anna and the King, in which he played the king of Siam opposite Jodie Foster, and in 2000 with Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
